Thank you for reaching out to Marriage Helper.
We are really glad you took this step. It takes courage to ask for help, especially when things feel confusing, painful, or overwhelming. Based on what you shared, our workshop is not the right next step for your situation right now, so we want to connect you with the support that will serve you best.
If you are experiencing abuse
Whether it is emotional, physical, verbal, or psychological, your safety and well-being matter deeply. And if you are not sure whether what you are experiencing "counts" as abuse, that uncertainty is okay. If something feels off, hurtful, controlling, or unsafe, it is worth talking to someone who can help you sort through it.
We gently encourage you to reach out to the National Domestic Violence Hotline. They are available 24/7 and can help you understand your situation, explore your options, and stay safe, without pressure or judgment.

While we care deeply about relationships, situations involving abuse require specialized support. You deserve to feel safe, respected, and supported. When you are in a safer place, we would be honored to walk alongside you in whatever next steps are right for you.
If you are having thoughts of suicide
If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, or feeling unsafe, you do not have to carry that alone. There are people who care deeply about you and are ready to support you right now.
We gently encourage you to reach out to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988, or through their online chat. They are available 24/7 and offer free, confidential support.

If you are a same-sex couple seeking support
Our workshop program was carefully designed around specific relationship dynamics, based on our research with heterosexual couples. Research shows that same-sex relationships have unique interactional patterns, including how conflict begins, how equality is prioritized, and how emotional repair happens. These distinctions are not deficits. They are differences that deserve care designed specifically for your relationship.
This is not a rejection of you or your relationship. It is our commitment to pointing you toward the most effective help available. We recommend the Gottman Method, which has extensive specialized research and proven methods for same-sex couples, tailored to the strengths and repair needs of your relationship.
