When people talk about falling madly in love, they're describing what we in the social sciences call limerence.
If your spouse says, “I’m in love with someone else”, is that a valid kind of love? Is it what people call true love? Does it mean your marriage is over? Or is it this thing that we call limerence?
I’m guessing that your spouse is in limerence with another person. And you want to know what to do about it.
There is a word for the feeling of being "madly in love", and we'll use that word because it's easier than saying feeling madly in love with somebody else.
